Port of Seattle Strategic Planning

The Senior Art Program Manager for the Port of Seattle invited The Lumiere Group to create a five-year strategic plan to convey the Port’s vision of art and cultural programming throughout the Port and Port-owned facilities. This document activated the Port’s mission by addressing programming, staffing, and implementation through a series of strategic goals. The Port of Seattle then re-engaged The Lumiere Group to create an implementation plan for a $27 million art budget as part of their 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Plan.

Overview

The Port of Seattle presented a unique and exciting challenge for The Lumiere Group. The strategic plan required the experience of The Lumiere Group’s full breadth of services, and team members worked closely with the Port to ensure client needs and goals were represented in the final deliverable.

Once the strategic plan was implemented, the Port of Seattle initiated the 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Plan with art funding restored to 1%. Through dedicating 1% of the project budget for art, Capital projects fund and integrate new and existing artwork commissions, acquisitions, and installations.

The Lumiere Group was then given the opportunity to create an implementation plan for a $27 million art budget as part of the Port of Seattle’s 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Plan. The recommended artist and artwork selection process was aligned with the goal of increasing the collection’s diversity of representation and expanding its impact while planning for the long-term growth of the art collection. The plan included recommendations for many projects targeted by the Capital Improvement plan, including the north main terminal, south satellite renovation, several concourse expansions, and various projects designed to impact the arrival experience at the airport.

The Museum of Flight

Tukwila, WA | Exhibition Consultation

The Museum of Flight created the Art + Flight exhibition to connect art and aviation lovers and engage their local creative community. The Lumiere Group consulted with museum staff in a search for artists to create site-specific installations in the museum. We supported the museum as they organized a juried exhibition in the museum’s historic Red Barn and advised on the selection of an artist-in-residence. We facilitated crucial connections between the art community and The Museum of Flight, and provided guidance on the specialized display and interpretation of art.
