Overview

In 2019, The Lumiere Group consulted with Microsoft on their new Canadian Headquarters. A national hub, the client requested that the art in the new facility highlight artists and artwork from all provinces and territories of Canada, placing significant importance on representing the First Nations and Indigenous communities. As a result of our Curator’s extensive knowledge and targeted recommendations, the client purchased numerous 2D and 3D artworks and commissioned a mural by artist Jordan Bennett. Over the COVID-19 pandemic, the Curatorial and Project Management team worked closely with the artist and client to ensure that the mural was delivered safely and in accordance with the client’s desired timeline.

An excellent example of our nimble team’s ability to shift focus and work remotely on a complicated new construction project, the Toronto artwork was delivered on time and within budget despite the challenges posed by closures and delays related to COVID-19. The broad scope of the curatorial brief was unique and required The Lumiere Group to build significantly on existing knowledge of Canadian artists. Project Management was executed when the Canadian border was closed to the U.S. and sourcing materials such as artwork frames was complicated by supply chain delays. Despite such challenges, our Logistics team constructed a custom solution for displaying small sculptures safely within the client’s unique shelving system. To complete the art installation, The Lumiere Group worked through proxies and remotely managed a multi-phased process to the client’s satisfaction.

"The Lumiere Group paved the way for my first big public art commission at Microsoft. I had never worked with a project management team before, and it could have been intimidating. But they guided me every step of the way with expertise and enthusiasm. They’re fantastic! "
