The Museum of Flight, Art + Flight
The Museum of Flight created the Art + Flight exhibition to connect art and aviation lovers and engage their local creative community. The Lumiere Group consulted with museum staff in their search for artists to create site-specific installations in the museum, organize a juried exhibition in the museum’s historic Red Barn, and advised on the selection of an artist-in-residence. Members from the Curatorial Department and Project Management team facilitated crucial connections between the art community and The Museum of Flight, and provided guidance on the specialized display and interpretation of art.

Overview
The Lumiere Group consulted with The Museum of Flight on Art + Flight, a museum-wide exhibition with the goal of connecting the creative impulses of both art and the science of flight. The Museum of Flight commissioned several artists to respond to the objects and ideas encountered in TMOF’s vast collection of historical objects. A diverse and thoughtful juried exhibition of regional artists was displayed in the museum’s Red Barn along with two murals, a glass atrium artwork, a suspended art installation, and the museum’s first artist-in-residence.
With an abbreviated timeline and limited visibility into the world of contemporary art, The Museum of Flight tasked The Lumiere Group with providing entre and expertise. As art consultants, The Lumiere Group was able to call upon extensive knowledge of the art community and professional practices to optimize our collaboration with The Museum of Flight. Drawing upon relationships within the art community, the Curatorial Team invited key collaborators to participate in the jurying process and connected artists whose interests and qualifications fit the museum’s aspirations.
Organizing this exhibition, The Lumiere Group advised on loan documentation, assessing client goals and identifying gaps in existing documentation. These industry specific assessments informed contract revisions for the museum’s legal counsel. Guidance was given for optimal display, lighting, and interpretive text.

New York Workspaces
Microsoft engaged The Lumiere Group to advise on art selection and installation for three offices in New York City, culminating in the installation of nearly 60 two-dimensional artworks as well as a multi-part commissioned textile wall artwork. Team members balanced individual client goals and aesthetic preferences with the unique demands of each project, including expedited timelines and travel limitations brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
