This document activated the Port’s mission by addressing programming, staffing, and implementation through a series of strategic goals. As a follow-up, a Capital Improvement Project (CIP) Strategic Plan was created two years later to continue to guide artwork acquisitions for this wide-reaching entity.

The Port of Seattle’s needs presented a unique and exciting challenge for The Lumiere Group. Although team members had experience in Strategic Plan creation for other institutions, this was the first time that team members had worked together to create a comprehensive strategic plan for a client. Once the strategic plan was implemented, The Lumiere Group was awarded the opportunity to expand on the original plan through the creation of a Curatorial Strategic Plan to help guide the art acquisitions process and funding. Anchored in various financial for-profit and nonprofit funding models, curatorial initiatives were recommended tied to project budgets and schedules. The artist and artwork selection process suggested aligned with the goal of increasing the collection’s diversity and impact.

Strategic plans with that take into account past context, existing initiatives, and future goals are critical in placing a collection in its proper context and allowing it to thrive. The Lumiere Group provided strategic planning documents for the Port of Seattle’s art program to guide current and future art initiatives that thoroughly consider the needs of the organization and the entire lifecycle of an artwork.
