Overview
As a part of the redevelopment of its original campus, Microsoft extended an innovative and beautiful pedestrian bridge across SR 520 in Redmond, linking East Campus with West. The Lumiere Group was asked to commission and oversee a monumental mural on the wall at the bridge’s west landing. The wall functions as part of an entrance to an underground parking facility, but is visible from surrounding buildings, the pedestrian bridge, and surrounding bike paths. With a scale of 32 x 82 ft, the mural is the largest artwork in Microsoft’s Art Collection. Public artist RYAN! Feddersen was chosen for her colorful and engaging aesthetic, as well as her unique ability to speak about issues of environment and sustainability.
Feddersen is an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, from the Okanogan and Arrow Lakes bands, and of mixed European descent. Her cultural background informs Vanishing Falls, which situates silhouettes of native plants amid glacial waterfalls, honoring the magnificent geological history of the site. The Lumiere Group oversaw the artist selection process, design phase, and installation of this monumental mural which welcomes pedestrians from the Redmond Technology Station and surrounding Microsoft campus.

East Campus Modernization
Introduction Paragraph (Excerpt): Microsoft engaged The Lumiere Group in 2017 to procure artwork as they planned for a redesign of their original campus which included some 3 million square feet of new workspace and amenities. As of 2024, we have installed 208 artworks across seven new Microsoft buildings, including 73 new acquisitions and 129 legacy artworks redeployed from storage and decommissioned buildings. Artworks curated for this project were aligned with the Microsoft Art Collection’s mission to foster a creative workspace and reflect the breadth and diversity of the company’s employees and client base.
