Maritime Art Collection Assessment & Valuation
Corporate partner OAC engaged The Lumiere Group on behalf of their client Saltchuk to conduct a walkthrough of corporate headquarters to identify and differentiate artwork and ephemera, catalogue objects, and assess values. We made suggestions for future display and use of the collection and provided the client with fascinating details about provenance based on our research.

Overview
Saltchuk was relocating their offices when they reached out to The Lumiere Group to request services. Their collection consisted of many historical artworks of unknown provenance as well as maritime ephemera, presenting a unique challenge for our team. Saltchuk sought advice on which Collection assets should be retained and how they should be displayed or framed in a new space. Adding extra complexity to the project was the fact that these artifacts belonged to various clients under a single collection umbrella. After initial planning, The Lumiere Group worked to identify and document holdings. We determined the value and potential uses for remaining fine art, identifying opportunities through an existing inventory of art and artifacts. We partnered onsite with knowledgeable liaisons to review artwork locations and note any identifying marks on artworks that might assist with artist identification and artwork valuations.
Our research unearthed fascinating stories about Seattle’s maritime history, which were included in final reports to client stakeholders. The project allowed Saltchuk to recontextualize a historical collection, bringing it into a bright new light.
